How to maintain dyed hair: the do's and don'ts for a long-lasting hair color

Maintaining hair color requires a bit of extra care to help preserve the color and keep your hair healthy. Here are some do's and don'ts for maintaining hair color:

Do's:

  1. Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for color-treated hair.

  2. Wash your hair less frequently to help prevent the color from fading.

  3. Use cool water to wash your hair and rinse with cool water after conditioning to help seal the hair cuticle.

  4. Use a hair mask or deep conditioning treatment once a week to keep your hair hydrated and healthy.

  5. Protect your hair from the sun's harmful rays by wearing a hat or using a hair product with SPF.

  6. Use a heat protectant spray if you must use heat styling tools.

  7. Use color-safe hair products such as leave-in conditioners, serums, or oils to help maintain the color and keep your hair healthy.

Don'ts:

  1. Use hot water to wash your hair as it can cause the color to fade more quickly.

  2. Use clarifying shampoos or harsh treatments such as bleach or peroxide, as they can strip the color from your hair.

  3. Overuse styling products such as gels or mousses, as they can weigh down the hair and dull the color.

  4. Use hot styling tools such as flat irons, curling irons, and hair dryers on high heat, as they can cause the color to fade more quickly and make your hair more prone to damage.

  5. Swim in chlorinated water without wearing a swim cap or using a leave-in conditioner or protective spray, as chlorine can damage the color and make your hair dry and brittle.

By following these do's and don'ts, you can help maintain your hair color and keep your hair healthy and vibrant.
